Description

This new-ish Charlotte, NC indie-pop features Phil Pucci and David Scanlon of Serfs.

North Carolina dream pop quartet Melt release their debut full-length album Repossession Blues via Croquet Records on September 16th. It follows the release of the 2014 digital single "Goddamn the Night."

Melt began in 2013 as a side project to complement singer and guitarist Phil Pucci's noise pop band Serfs and eventually grew into its own with a lineup consisting of members of Drip and Shell.

Alex Smith plays drums and also recorded half of Repossession Blues at his home studio. David Scanlon, a longtime friend of Pucci and Smith, plays guitar and the lineup is rounded out by bassist Caiti Mason.

The songs that make up Repossession Blues were largely borne out of tumultuous year of reckless spending and irresponsible decisions. In the song's lyrics, Pucci takes complicated situations and feelings of frustration and pares them down to their core.

"The lyrics are very visceral and in many cases, the songs only have one or two lines," the Charlotte-based singer explains. "I was inspired by samples in DJ sets and techno albums I was listening to at the time."

The album was recorded in halves; the first side was recorded in an afternoon at Sioux Sioux Studio, tucked away on a residential street in Charlotte's Plaza-Midwood neighborhood. The second side was recorded at Smith's home studio. Repossession Blues is grounded by punchy guitars and catchy melodies, and lifted by an array of effects and tight, reserved drumming by Smith.
